From June through October, adventure seekers will discover a wealth of cultural experiences, outdoor excursions, on-the water excitement, and more. In 2017, the America’s Cup, presented by Louis Vuitton, is a big part of the action on-island right now, of course. But it’s just the beginning of your Sizzling Summer fun. Check out a few highlights below and download the brochure for full info.
Sizzling Summer Events
There’s always something going on throughout – but there are a few summer events that take Bermuda to the next level. Bermuda Heroes Weekend (June 16-19) is three days of Carnival-style celebrations, including the Parade of Bands on Front Street, the world-renowned Raft Up and island-wide revelry. LIV Bermuda (July 7-9) is an upscale, weekend-long party that connects you to an amazing mix of people, cultures, and a one-of-a-kind mystique. Want to paint the town red – and green, purple, blue and yellow? Plan a trip around Party People Fantasy Island (July 14), featuring top Caribbean DJs. Every Wednesday night through August 30, Front Street in Hamilton transforms into a festive street fair for Harbour Nights, featuring live music, local arts and crafts vendors, and some of Bermuda’s best food trucks. Cup Match Summer Splash (August 3-6) is centered around a fierce cricket rivalry, but even non-sports fanatics will find plenty to enjoy, whether it’s a game of Crown & Anchor, dancing during the Soca vs. Reggae show or marveling at the barely seaworthy vessels competing in the Non-Mariners Race.
On The Water Explorations
You can’t visit Bermuda without spending some time out on that sparkling turquoise water – and there are countless ways to enjoy a few aquatic adventures. Dive beneath the waves to learn why Bermuda has earned a reputation as the shipwreck capital of the Atlantic Ocean, with more than 300 sunken ships. Or rent a bike and hit the waves. You read that right. Hydrobike Bermuda’s stable, pedal-driven watercrafts make it as easy to ride along the coastline as it is the sidewalk. Kids and adults will love helmet diving, which lets you walk and breathe normally underwater while exploring reefs that teem with marine life. Set sail aboard a yacht or catamaran for a glamorous sunset cruise – Rum Swizzles included, of course. Zoom across the water on a jet ski; a guide can take you to hidden coves and inlets. Or parasail high above crystal clear waters and coral reefs. The possibilities are endless.
The outdoors are where it’s at in Bermuda, whether you’re in the mood for biking, hiking, golfing or just seeing where the road takes you. Discover the Bermuda Railway Trail, an 18-mile wonderland that is perfect for a two-wheel excursion. Explore St. George’s on horseback with a personalised tour along charming country lanes, trails, beaches and forts. Take advantage of our special rate at the world-famous Port Royal Golf Course, the home of the PGA Grand Slam of Golf from 2009-2014. Enjoy some of the best adrenaline-fuelled water sport activities Bermuda has to offer with the Seabreacher, a vehicle that can reach up to 60mph. Experience the rush of flying with a Coconut Rockets Bermuda Flyboard, soaring up to 35 feet above the water’s surface. Or mellow out with a horseback tour of the island’s beautiful pink sand beaches. Sit back, relax and breathe.
Bermuda is a virtual playground for families, with surprises and delights around every corner. March in the footsteps of the island’s earliest defenders, as you tour Fort St. Catherine, one of Bermuda’s most impressive historic forts, guarding the eastern shores from invaders. Explore Bermuda’s wildlife and the wildlife of other islands at the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum & Zoo, a three-in-one attraction that is home to more than 200 species of fish and marine invertebrates from Bermuda’s coastal waters, coral reefs and the deep ocean. For more educational entertainment, head to the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute, featuring the fascinating America’s Cup exhibit “Built to Win,” and much more. See what’s happening beneath the gentle waves of Snorkel Park Beach, or kick back while the kids join the on-site DJ for games like musical chairs and dance freeze.
From happening happy hours to fine dining, from chic cocktail lounges to lively dance clubs, Bermuda’s summer nightlife never disappoints. In the City of Hamilton, find upscale bars, sports bars and chilled out pubs as well as clubs and lounges. Many have bands or DJs in the summer, and you can catch live jazz, reggae and calypso year-round. Not into the hustle and bustle of the City? Head out to St. George’s for good island vibes, including Tobacco Bay’s beachside bonfires, Gombeys (traditional Bermuda dance troupes) at Clearwater beach, or the local favorite Wahoo’s Bistro & Patio, offering great happy hour drink specials and friendly feelings.
Can’t Miss Experiences
But wait, there’s even more. Eco-adventurers should plan a trip out to Cooper’s Island Nature Reserve, where they’ll find an array of secluded beaches and pristine natural settings. Foodies and non-foodies alike simply must try a Bermuda Fish Sandwich – we recommend one with “the works” (lettuce, tomato, cheese, onions, coleslaw and hotter-than-hot sauce). Dare to walk the plank at Calico Jack’s Pirate Fire Show, a one-of-a-kind stunt featuring death-defying stunts, sword fighting and a spectacular fire dance display. Get a Taste of Bermuda at the Bermuda Craft Market in the Royal Naval Dockyard, sampling locally produced food and beverages while grooving to the sounds of island musicians. Every Saturday from noon to 1pm, go see the Gombeys in Queen Elizabeth Park as their vivid costumes swirl to the rhythms in the heart of the City of Hamilton. Or get above it all thanks to Blue Sky Flights’ Cessna 172 Skyhawk Airplane, which gives you an amazing bird’s eye view of Bermuda.
